Marianne Orr
Marianne Orr is a peer mentor, role model, and advocate for adaptive sports, with a lifelong commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities. She runs the adult and junior wheelchair tennis programs in Utah and serves on the board for the Utah Tennis Association. She is the Regional Provider for Junior Wheelchair Tennis for the Intermountain section, covering six states. Marianne helps athletes with disabilities discover the joy and competitive spirit of adaptive sports.
A passionate advocate for accessibility, Marianne has also served on the board of directors for Ability First, an organization dedicated to providing resources for people with disabilities. Her advocacy skills work to break down barriers and create more inclusive opportunities for all.
In 1997, Marianne was involved in a car accident that left her paralyzed. Rather than being defined by this life-changing event, she turned adversity into achievement. She went on to compete at the highest level in wheelchair tennis as well as participated in the first international adaptive bobsled and skeleton driving school, becoming one of the first females to pilot an adaptive bobsled, further proving that no challenge is too great. She recently graced the cover of the 50th Anniversary of Sports 'N Spokes Magazine highlighting a pickleball first, the inaugural national wheelchair championships.
In her spare time, Marianne enjoys the outdoors, pickleball, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends. She is deeply involved in the community, where she motivates others with her unwavering determination to overcome obstacles and live life to the fullest.
