Mattias Johannson
Mattias Johansson is a world-class Senior Pro Pickleball player and decorated tennis coach, with a career spanning more than three decades in competitive racquet sports. Currently a touring professional on the APP, PPA, USA Pickleball, and TheSeniorProTour.com circuits, Mattias has firmly established himself as a dominant force in Senior Pro Singles, earning the #1 world ranking for an incredible 156 consecutive weeks.
A former elite tennis player, Mattias reached #1 in the USTA National Singles rankings in 2019 and climbed to #17 in the ITF world rankings in 2020. He transitioned seamlessly into pickleball in April 2021, rapidly amassing 57 Senior Pro Singles titles and four Doubles/Mixed Doubles titles. His achievements include a 2022 Grand Slam—winning the US Open (New York), PPA Championships, and Nationals—as well as Senior Pro Singles National Championships in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He also claimed the PPA World Championship title in 2024.
Mattias has medaled in 75 consecutive Senior Pro events since October 2021, a testament to his consistency, skill, and athleticism.
Off the court, Mattias brings 29 years of head coaching experience to collegiate tennis. He has led over 1,000 dual matches at Vanguard University and UC Riverside, where he currently serves as Director of Tennis for both Men’s and Women’s programs. He was inducted into the Vanguard University Hall of Fame in 2014 and the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2015, recognized for his excellence as both player and coach.
